A $27,000.00 grant was written and received from the Deptartment of Commerce Energy Efficeincy Department. This is a great success as we will now be able to install new windows, doors and insulation!!!

The Maddock Opera House Association has met several times and plans are underway to start fundraising to restore/rehabilitate the building. A board has been formed and Lee Haugen is assisting with application for a 501(c) 3 non profit status.  Many suggestions have been brought forth as what to use the building for. So far the following suggestions have been made and are being considered:

  • The Library at City Hall has out grown its space. A move to this building would expand it's service to the residents and would be more centrally located on main street. Internet and a coffee shop have been suggested.
  • Restore the upper level of the building that has a stage to use for musical productions and possiblly a movie theater using a big screen and DVD's.
  •  Link Economic Development with the restoration by adding a few specialty retail spaces to lease to local artisians.
  • Tourism can be tapped into by advertising the historical building and Arts and Cultural activities.
  • There is a need locally for a place for our young people to be abe to meet and socialize. The basement area was once used for this purpose and could be once again. Local youth would be encouraged to participate in the plans to make this area a place they would feel comfortable going.
  • Use the building to educate our youth and tourists about our history and heritage. The goal of this project is to retain our history for future generations.
In order for the building to be self sustainable we need the creative thoughts and donations of the community. If you have any thoughts or suggestions or can be of assistance with your time or a donation, please feel free to contact one of the board members listed below.

 Rural Renaissance Festival

The Maddock Community Development office will be spearheading a Fall Festival on October 8-10 2010.
Five committees have been recruited to help with the plannning. Many more volunteers will be needed as we
move forward with the project. The reason for having the Festival is to attract people to the community,
showcase its assets, and promote economic development. It will be exciting to have all the groups, organizations
and residents working together towards a common goal.
The entertainment committe has booked a very popular band and will annnouce when a contract has been signed.
Scott Foss has generously agreed to plant and cut a peice of land to use as a corn maze.
Vendors are currently being contacted to fill the Benson County Events Center. A hospitality center will be set up
at the Community Center.
All committees and organizations are encouraged to get involved as this will be an annual event that Maddock and
surrounding communities will enjoy. If you are interested in helping with the event or showcasing your business or
handmade items please contact Debbie at 438-2436

Many people were involved in building a stage to be used for the 3-band Christian Rock Concert held on November 7, 2009. The stage is portable and will be a great asset to the building and the community. Many people contributed their time and we congratulate you all on a job well done!!!
